Back in 1786 when this particular village, four miles from the banks of the Ohio River, was deciding upon a name, George Washington was probably the most respected man in the colonies and the hero of the Revolutionary War as well as the whole country. The town fathers chose to name the first town in his honor, and thus it was that Washington, Kentucky, got its name. So it is no great surprise that after all these years preparations are being made to have a Happy Birthday Party in his honor. Everyone is invited. There will be a birthday cake, which will be served in the Washington Meeting House in the center of the village. Hours of the celebration are from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 19th. Many of the shops will have birthday favors, birthday gifts and prizes and some will serve refreshments. Many of the shops will take a hatchet to their prices and/or also offer discounts from 10% to 30% off on party favor purchases..
